Excavations have unearthed one of the most impressive archaeological and architectural complexes in the Mediterranean, revealing the splendid image of ancient Baia. This site, a favored resort destination during the Roman era, was a center of excellence in ancient thermalism, offering refreshment for body and spirit. Its importance has been passed down through the polyphonic narratives of ancient writers.

The imperial palace, beloved by emperors such as Claudius and Nero, was probably located elsewhere, perhaps at Punta Epitaffio. Over time, the villas were transformed from luxurious residences into hotel-like facilities for spa visitors. The original properties were modified, creating new paths and spaces, until the Middle Ages. However, as the springs declined, these baths were also abandoned, leaving only ruins for Grand Tour travelers.

Among the most significant remains we have: Temple of Diana, used for thermal purposes and decorated with marble friezes depicting hunting; Temple of Mercury, consisting of two nuclei of little-known buildings since one part is submerged and another has been destroyed by more modern constructions; Temple of Venus, a thermal building with a circular plan inside and octagonal outside, originally covered by “cloven” vaults; Baths of Sosandra, which are developed on terraces, residential rooms with promenades and porticoed gardens.
