Visit the National Archaeological Museum of Pontecagnano with Campania>Artecard.
The National Archaeological Museum of Pontecagnano is dedicated to and named after the "Etruscans of the Frontier", showcasing artifacts from the Villanovan and Etruscan-Campanian settlement of Pontecagnano.
This collection is of immense historical value, with its largest core consisting of artifacts from over 10,000 burials excavated in the Pontecagnano necropolises over the past fifty years.
Inaugurated in 2007, the museum is housed in a modern building designed specifically to display the extraordinary archaeological evidence of this settlement, which originated in the 9th century BC in the area of present-day Pontecagnano.
The museum exhibition features modern museographic elements, including graphic reconstructions, immersive settings, bilingual panels, reproductions of artifacts and burials, providing an engaging and educational experience. It tells the story of a thriving community, the last Etruscan stronghold, which maintained extensive trade and cultural exchanges across the Mediterranean. The exhibition follows a chronological path, narrating the long history of the Picentine territory, from the earliest prehistoric evidence to the foundation of the Roman city of Picentia.
