Catacombe di Napoli

Visit the Naples Catacombs with Campania>Artecard, which includes two fascinating routes, both covered by the pass: a visit to the Catacombs of San Gennaro and the Catacombs of San Gaudioso, located in the Sanità district of Naples, which was once a necropolis and cemetery area and later became the neighborhood that gave birth to Totò.

The Catacombs of San Gennaro are underground cemeteries, representing the peak of Christian expression in Naples. They are named after the relics of the Saint, buried there in 305, which turned the catacomb into a place of worship for the city. Over time, the number of tombs increased, necessitating the extension of the corridors and further excavation into the ground. Additionally, frescoes depicting the deceased buried in these cemetery areas can be found.

The Catacombs of San Gaudioso are the second underground cemetery in Naples, following those of San Gennaro. Built beneath the Abbey of the Church of Santa Maria alla Sanità, they represent the paleochristian period, featuring frescoes and mosaics dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries, up to the 17th century. Notable is the fresco of Ascenzio from the 5th century, depicting the Apostle Peter.

Visits to the Catacombs of San Gennaro and San Gaudioso count as a single access. Reservation is mandatory.
