Basiliche Paleocristiane di Cimitile

Visit the Paleochristian Basilica Complex of Cimitile with Campania>Artecard, one of the oldest and most captivating religious sites in the Campania region. This extraordinary archaeological and spiritual complex, located just a few kilometers from Nola, preserves the origins of Christianity in southern Italy and reveals more than seventeen centuries of history, art, and faith.

Originally established as a Roman burial ground in the 3rd century AD, the complex developed in the 4th century around the tomb of Saint Felix of Nola, becoming one of the main pilgrimage destinations of Western Christianity. It was here that Paulinus of Nola, a bishop and refined scholar, promoted the construction of new basilicas and the artistic renewal of the area, creating a true sanctuary of Christian memory.

The Basilicas of Saint Felix, the Holy Martyrs, and Saint Thomas are extraordinary examples of Paleochristian architecture, featuring frescoes, mosaics, and inscriptions that reflect the devotion and artistic mastery of the late antique and medieval periods.

Today, the Museum of the Paleochristian Basilicas of Cimitile welcomes visitors on an immersive journey through art, spirituality, and archaeology, offering a unique experience to those who wish to explore the roots of Christian Campania and its cultural heritage.
