Museo Civico di Castel Nuovo

Museo Civico di Castel Nuovo

Visit with Campania>Artecard the Castel Nuovo, also known as the Maschio Angioino, one of Naples' most emblematic fortresses that houses the civic museum.

Built in 1279 at the behest of Charles I of Anjou, the castle has played a crucial role in the history of Naples, having been the residence of kings, viceroys and governors. The Civic Museum was established inside the castle to preserve and enhance the city's artistic and historical heritage.

The museum, inaugurated in 1990, is spread over several levels of the castle and includes various sections covering a time span from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance to the modern age. Castel Nuovo is not only a testament to the city's political and military power, but also an important cultural center reflecting the artistic richness of Naples.
