Visit the National Archaeological Museum of Volcei with Campania>Artecard.
The National Archaeological Museum of Volcei is dedicated to the memory of Marcello Gigante, a distinguished scholar from Buccino, renowned philologist, Hellenist, and papyrologist, and founder of the "Center for the Study of Herculaneum Papyri." He was a strong advocate for the establishment of this museum.
The museum is housed in a 15th-century building, considered by many scholars to be the oldest Augustinian monastic foundation in the Salerno area, with records dating back to the 14th century. In 1473, Master Natale da Ragusa designed and built the cloister and the convent area surrounding it, dedicated "in honor of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Saints Anthony and Augustine."
This captivating historic structure now showcases archaeological finds within a fully restored 1,600-square-meter exhibition space, spread across four levels.
The Archaeological Park is located in the modern historic center of Buccino, where visitors can explore the area freely through marked paths.
