Complesso monumentale e Biblioteca dei Girolamini

Visit the Complesso monumentale e Biblioteca dei Girolamini with Campania>Artecard. Founded in the 16th century and expanded over the following centuries, it is one of the most extraordinary and significant treasures of history and culture in Naples. A true unicum, it stands out for the density and quality of its architectural, artistic, literary, and archival heritage.

The Library, the Archives, the Picture Gallery, the Church dedicated to St. Filippo Neri and the adjoining rooms host an exceptional amount of works and documents. The Complex is located in the beating heart of one of the most populous cities in Europe. The Pope strongly wanted it, as he considered it as a means to stem the ‘dangerous’ spread of the Reformation and maintain, through cultural dominance and the arts in general, strict control over the many of religious communities that were spreading through the city. Over the more than four centuries of its existence, the Complex has played an important role in the culture and social life of Naples. The Complex is currently in the final phase of an intense period of restoration and facilities works. On March 21st 2024, the Church reopened to the public, thus marking the first step of the gradual reopening process.
