mini circuit
Visit the museum dedicated to Giuseppe "Joe" Petrosino with Campania>Artecard, housed in his birthplace in Padula. Born on August 30, 1860, Petrosino was a legendary Italian-American police officer. This museum is the only house-museum in Italy dedicated to a law enforcement officer.
After returning to Italy from New York, where he had emigrated with his parents at the age of 13, Joe Petrosino came back to Padula before continuing his journey to Palermo, where he was assassinated on March 12, 1909, while investigating the connections between the American and Sicilian mafia.
The museum preserves the original rooms of the Petrosino family home, still furnished with period furniture and objects.
In the bedroom, visitors can see Joe Petrosino's baby cradle, covered in tulle, alongside toiletries placed on a small mirrored dresser. The walls are adorned with original vintage photographs of Petrosino's family. The dining room, furnished in Art Nouveau style, features a set table with family dishware and napkins embroidered with the Petrosino monogram. Paintings and photographs displayed on the walls and furniture trace the generations of the Petrosino family. On the upper floor, an innovative multimedia section of the museum provides a documented exploration of the history of the anti-mafia movement, offering a deeper understanding of Petrosino’s legacy and investigative work.
This site is part of a mini circuit that includes the Certosa di San Lorenzo, the Joe Petrosino House Museum, the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte, and the Multimedia Civic Museum of Padula. By using just one entry included in the pass, visitors can explore all the sites in the mini circuit within two consecutive days.
